OUR STRENGTH
The courses at MICE are in tune with the latest trends in
the software industry and the curriculum is regularly revised so that the
students do not end up learning some thing that is outdated by the time
they finish the course. All this is done keeping in mind the dynamically
evolving change in the software field. The courses and the training
schedules are also prepared keeping in mind the
convenience of the students who come here, ranging from the school and
college students, employees, officers, retired persons and housewives.
What sets MICE apart from the rest, is the ambience that you find here. The learning atmosphere that we provide her is
one where the student feels completely at home and experiences a
sense of belonging. It is this feeling that has gone a long way in creating
the image of MICE in the minds of student community. Hence we can today
proudly claim that our reputation is more a result of word of mouth
publicity than tall claims made in newspapers.
FOUNDER
: DR TONSE
MADHAV ANANTH PAI
A doctor who had a
cure for economic illness of the land. A Visionary who could visualise schools, colleges, hospitals, and banks on
barren land. A leader who could motivate a generation to believe in him. A
man who had the courage to dream and the conviction to realise
his dreams. Dr. T M A Pai was all this and more.
Dr T M A Pai
graduated in Medicine from the Madras University in 1925. He did pursue the
art of healing for quite sometime and quite successfully too. It was the
practice of medicine that first impressed on him the necessity for
improving the standards of living of the people particularly the middle
classes and peasants. He was aware that personal charity had its limits and
that the best method was to help people help themselves. He lived by what
he used to say -Give a man a fish, you have fed
him for a day. Teach him fishing and you have fed him for a lifetime!
He decided to improve their finance and
also education. In his endeavour to improve their
finance, he taught the people the 'saving habit' through the Syndicate Bank
in which he started an innovative scheme called the 'Pigmy Deposit Scheme'.
The Pigmy scheme was a thrift scheme meticulously drafted by Dr Pai. Under this scheme sums as low as 25 paise (then 4 annas) could be
deposited in the bank. Twenty five paise per day,
he would say, would pile up to grow to huge sums over the years.
He gave up his medical profession to
serve in the wider fields of banking and education. Whatever task he took
up, he did it with the zeal of a missionary and success naturally followed
in the wake of his sincere efforts and persuasion.
He was the Chairman of Syndicate Bank
for over two decades till it was nationalised.
The bank grew from a small bank to mammoth size and national fame during
his regime and has maintained this growth everafter.
It was his innovation to start branches of the bank in small villages. His task in the field of education started
with the founding of the Academy of General Education in the year 1942,
with the object of helping failed matriculates to find some vocation. From
this small beginning the Academy has grown during the last nearly 50 years
into a centre of education with international fame.
Dr Pai has
seen during his life time the Academy grow from a few Primary and Secondary
Schools to have under its control 12 High Schools, 2 Junior Colleges, 6
Arts Colleges, 6 Professional Colleges of which
the Medical College is one. The Medical College was the test case of Dr Pai's calibre to withstand
criticism and opposition while launching a revolutionary idea. Now the
Medical College stands as the truest monument of Dr Pai's
foresight, imagination and genius.
His brilliant pair of eyes and two hard
lines on his forehead were signs of a master
planner which he was till the last day of his life. His achievements in the
twin worlds of finance and education are perhaps unsurpassed in recent history. To describe Dr Pai as
a mere founder of institutions or a master planner would be ignoring his
fine personality. As a man he was cordial to all, the small and the big,
the young and the old alike. He was very humorous and yet preserved his
dignity. He never cringed for favours from
anyone-never. He was a very good conversationist
and an excellent narrator of stories and had many interesting anecdotes of
his own personal experiences which he would recollect often to the rapt
attention of his listeners.

his own personal experiences which he would recollect often to the rapt
attention of his listeners.
He loved talking and discussing with
everyone and till nearly two years prior to his death would take anyone
round Manipal and show them not only the great
institutions but also the cadavers, the newly bored well, the empty land
where he planned to have a University and so on. He would participate in
and most often preside over the smallest and the biggest 'meetings' with
the same sincere zeal and pleasure and would often attend more than one
meeting in a day. He was always busy and yet had time for all. He used to
say that, Education is an
industry engaged in making a man.
